CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing
Blue Water Surgery Center of Atlanta is happy to offer the Ultra Pulse factional laser to our patients. The Ultra Pulse fractional laser (oftentimes referred to as “fraxel laser” or “CO2 laser” resurfacing procedure removes outer layers of skin and stimulates new collagen growth in the dermis. Your skin will look firmer, smoother, and younger, effectively restructured and restored to a healthy state that closely resembles non-sun-damaged skin.

Most characteristics associated with aging, such as wrinkles, deep skin furrows, and thick or (leathery) skin are caused by years of sun exposure, not the natural aging process. Our skin is composed of two layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The dermis, or the deep layer, contains collagen elastic fibers, which give our skin basic structure and support. The sun and other factors, such as tobacco or alcohol use, can break down these substances in our dermis, causing wrinkles and furrows. Surface imperfections such as acne, scarring, moles, and sunspots may also taint the face – Co2 lasers can reverse these conditions.

- Finally obtain even skin tone
Fractional Laser CO2 Resurfacing at the Plastic Surgery Center of Atlanta
Our Atlanta Plastic Surgeons utilize a Coherent Ultra Pulse CO2 Laser to resurface the skin. This instrument allows us to use a high-energy beam to vaporize scars, lines, wrinkles, and other skin imperfections layer by layer. The laser affords a level of precision, control and accuracy that is not available with other methods. The laser can only be used up to the jaw line because of difficulties in healing if used on the skin of the neck. (There are other treatments available to address the neck including surgical procedure such as a neck lift).
The CO2 Laser Resurfacing Procedure
This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in an accredited and licensed ambulatory surgical center under anesthesia sedation. Patients are discharged the same day to a responsible party. You cannot drive yourself home after treatment.
Recovery from CO2 Laser Resurfacing
The exfoliation of skin requires new skin to grow from the deeper layers. During the first two weeks, a significant amount of redness and weeping of the skin can be expected. An occlusive dressing is applied during the first 6 or 7 days, and you must refrain from wearing make-up during the first two weeks.
The skin may continue to show signs of pinkness or redness for several weeks following surgery. Our esthetician will assist you in helping to prepare the skin for treatment, as well as applying camouflage make-up during the second week. Swelling may also occur and should resolve within the first couple of weeks. The skin heals extremely well over time. Sun exposure should also be avoided during the first six weeks following treatment.
Fractional Laser Resurfacing: Making a Decision
Fractional Laser Resurfacing may not necessarily be the appropriate recommendation for each patient. We offer a complimentary consultation to provide patient education, computer imaging, to communicate visually, and assistance with your financial investment.
