A
Lap Band is a surgical procedure for weight loss by wrapping an adjustable
band around the stomach. This effectively reduces the size of the
stomach, giving the patient the feeling of fullness sooner. This
restricts the patients dietary intake, which results in weight loss.
This
procedure is better than other weight loss procedures for the following
reasons:
1.
No permanent change in the patient's gastric or digestive anatomy. i.e.
Totally reversable.
2.
No removal of any portion of the bowel, hence there are no problems
absorbing vitamins, or with diarrhea.
3.
The band is completely adjustable after the surgery with a simple needle
and syringe fill.
4.
Procedure is done laproscopically with small incision ports and a camera
instead of a large painful incision.
