This operation is
commonly performed on patients with ams with hanging or sagging skin.
This surgery is performed under nerolept or general anesthetic and takes
approximately 1 hour. The surgery involves making an incision in the
upper inner portion of the arm and excising the excess skin and fat
surrounding the entire arm. The patient generally must wear a supportive
compression garment for 6 weeks surrounding the upper arm. The results
are usually noticeable immediately after surgery but continue to imrove
for 1 year post surgery. For certain selected individuals who have minimal
skin and mostly fat this procedure can also be performed with liposuction.
